During her visit to the United States, Dr. Jelena Begovic, Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, met with Dominic Favre, CEO and representative of Serbia at the World Bank, and Carolina Sanchez, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia.
The discussion focused on possible World Bank investments in science, innovation, and the startup environment.
The BIO4 campus project was also presented at the meeting, and discussions were held about the Project for Acceleration of Innovation and Encouraging the Growth of Entrepreneurship, which is already being implemented in Serbia and aims to change the scientific ecosystem itself through the transformation of scientific institutes, strengthen innovation activity of scientific institutes, and increase the number of start-up companies.
According to Minister Begovic, during the conversation, it was suggested that the project be expanded to include some of the faculties who shown interest in it.
Favreau was pleased by Serbia's ambition in terms of innovation, adding that it will be very interesting to see how the World Bank responds to Minister Begovi's suggestions in terms of artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
According to him, not many countries come to the World Bank with the aim to exchange such experiences, and in Serbia's case, it went extremely well and promisingly.
