The first meeting of the Working Group for drafting the Regulation on the management and protection of genetic and biomedical data in Serbia was held at the Institute of Chemistry, Technology, and Metallurgy.
The Regulation is being jointly developed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Zlatibor Lončar, and the Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, with prior input from the Office for IT and e-Government, based on the Law on Health Documentation and Records in Healthcare. The Regulation will define the conditions and methods for maintaining the Register, as well as the operations of the Body for the Use of Data from Records and Registers in the field of healthcare.
The Working Group, chaired by State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Vukašin Grozdić, and co-chaired by State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Ivana Stašević Karličić, includes representatives from both ministries, the Office for IT and e-Government, relevant healthcare institutions, scientific research organizations, and patient associations.
During the meeting, the objectives of the Working Group were presented, the framework for establishing the Register was analyzed, and the next steps were agreed upon. This was followed by a discussion on key aspects of the Regulation.
The Working Group’s mandate extends until the end of March 2025, with the goal of completing the Regulation by that time.
