ICT is one of Serbia's most promising industries!

The high-tech industry in Serbia is expanding at an average pace of over 20%, which significantly boosts the economy of the nation. In addition to steel manufacturing, the automobile industry, and agriculture, it currently contributes 10% of Serbia's GDP and is one of the country's four main export industries.

There were 3,354 technological businesses registered in Serbia as of the first quarter of 2022, with 47,609 individuals working there. These businesses create software solutions for a variety of markets, including testing, agriculture, and medical. They also create online games, cloud and cybersecurity apps, and call centers with a workforce of various skill sets. With various businesses that have successfully implemented solutions across numerous industries, the significance of the startup environment in Serbia is also expanding.

The Government of Serbia is taking steps to address this issue by expanding the number of spaces for students at universities that offer pertinent knowledge, but also because of the high demand for qualified staff in the ICT sector among foreign companies operating in Serbia, as well as large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises in the country that are entering automation and digitalization processes, as well as applying artificial intelligence in their business processes.

The founding of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia could be regarded as one of the significant accomplishments. Even though this institution, which trains scientists to become doctors in the field of artificial intelligence, is only celebrating its second anniversary this year, the area already recognizes it as a center of excellence.

The government puts into practice a number of programs targeted at retaining and luring highly trained individuals, such as supporting the creation and operation of start-up businesses and offering support to the scientific sector for research and development.
